First Year Course - Second Semester
This course was based on a visit in Rome. As a starting point, we were asked to wander around the city and find a place that creates an "unexpected" event in the urban environment. We will also examine the parameter of the human scale that characterizes the city. The chosen place describes an encounter between a number of interior facades of different residential buildings. This encounter creates a "shaft" that his access is restricted. The proximity of the various facades allows a wide range of views between the apartments, and in some cases even a large part of the interior of the apartment can be seen. This place produces an unexpected interaction between the Residents. The different floor levels emphasize the relationship between the viewer and the observed. When we arrived in Israel, we were asked to relocate the place from Rome on the university campus in Givat Ram. The new location is in an inner courtyard adjacent to the National Library building. As part of the analysis process, a comparison was made between the library grid (Mondrian) and that of the place in Rome (Kadinski). The use of the two existing patios in the library and comparing them to the shaft has created a new potential that combines the two.
